First Modifications & Camping Trip in our Jimny
Posted by Ali Graham on
Following on from our previous blog post and with a few hundred miles on the clock of our new Jimny, we already keen to set about some modifications.
After keeping a close eye on the Japanese Jimny scene, one of the most popular modifications being made was to replace the somewhat plain OEM tail lights with LED items.
While some of these lights on offer ranged from subtle to tacky in their appearance, the one key feature they all appeared to be missing was fog light functionality. Outside of Asia/Australia/New Zealand, all new Jimnys appear to be supplied with a factory fog light. Here in the UK it is a legal requirement in order to pass a yearly MOT inspection, so we set to work with an LED tail light manufacturer to address this oversight.
A short while later, the first pair of production prototype JIMNYSTYLE LED Tail Lights arrived at our office. After quickly familiarising ourselves with them and shooting a few product photos...
...we eagerly got to work with installing them on our car. You can view a quick installation video that we made below:
Being daylight, we couldn't really appreciate the full effect of the installation. Once night time eventually fell we headed into Manchester city centre to capture some professional photos with our resident photographer.
After a few hectic days at the office catching up on shipments and deliveries...
...it was time to finally hit the road and head off on an adventure!
The destination was the Driftland circuit in Fife, Scotland, so that we could attend a drift event there.
It's fair to say that the Jimny is probably not most people's first choice of car to do 250 motorway miles in but, nevertheless, we eventually arrived and parked up next to a few of our friends' respective drift cars for some photos.
As night fell, it was time to set up camp. We say "set up"; what we actually mean is unravel a sleeping bag and lay the front and rear seats flat. Despite being 6'4", a night's sleep was possible with the help of a single pillow, although it was the comfiest of overnight stays!

On our way home we got papped by a few photographers that had been attending the Driftland event.
After our trip away it was back to work as normal, although subsequent weekends were spent heading up into the hills for walks and BBQs.
This is the perfect place to enjoy the advantages of the little Jimny, slicing through narrow roads and negotiating other traffic/pedestrians/sheep with ease.
Unfortunately, the British Summer weather isn't always predictable, but muddy tracks are just as fun!
That marks the end of another JimnyStyle blog post. Thank you very much for reading and I hope you will continue to enjoy these posts!
